New Specialist In-House Ultrasound & Echo Services
At Wyndham Community Vet, our mission has always been about providing accessible, high-quality care out of pure love for our community's pets. To ensure your pets can receive advanced diagnostics right here in our stress-free clinic, we are incredibly proud to offer in-house specialist ultrasound services.
By bringing in a specialist and state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging directly into our clinic at 106 Heaths Road, we can provide non-invasively, rapid, precise analyses when your pet needs it most.
Abdominal Ultrasound Capabilities
An abdominal ultrasound allows us to evaluate the size, shape, and internal structure of your pet's organs to accurately diagnose a wide range of conditions, including:
β’ Organ diseases: Chronic kidney disease, liver disease, hepatitis, and pancreatitis.
β’ Urinary tract issues: Bladder and kidney stones, or severe urinary tract infections.
β’ Gastrointestinal problems: Intestinal foreign bodies (swallowed objects), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and blockages.
β’ Reproductive conditions: Severe uterine infections (pyometra) and early pregnancy tracking.
β’ Tumors and cysts: Benign or malignant masses within the spleen, liver, kidneys, or adrenal glands.
β’ Fluid accumulation: Internal bleeding or abnormal fluid buildup in the abdominal cavity.
Echocardiography (Heart Ultrasound) Capabilities
An echocardiogram, or "echo," is a specialized ultrasound that captures real-time, moving images of the heart chambers, valves, and blood flow. This is essential for identifying cardiac conditions such as:
β’ Valve diseases: Myxomatous mitral valve disease (the primary cause of heart murmurs in dogs).
β’ Heart muscle diseases: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (common in cats) and dilated cardiomyopathy (common in large dogs).
β’ Congenital defects: Heart defects present from birth, such as holes in the heart walls or blood vessel malformations.
β’ Fluid around the heart: Pericardial effusion, which restricts the heart's ability to pump safely.
β’ Heartworm disease: Severe parasitic infections that physically obstruct blood flow.
β’ Congestive heart failure: Structural changes indicating the heart can no longer efficiently pump blood.

Desexing female pets can significantly reduce the risk of:
π©·
Mammary tumours: Early desexing lowers the chances of these cancers developing.
Metritis: This is an infection of the uterus, which can be avoided through desexing.
Pyometra: A serious and potentially life-threatening uterine infection that desexing prevents.
Ovarian/Uterine/Vaginal neoplasia: Desexing eliminates the risk of tumours in these reproductive organs.
Ovarian cysts: These can cause various health issues, which desexing helps prevent.
Desexing male pets can reduce the risk of:
π©΅
Perineal hernias: Desexing helps prevent this condition, which can affect the intestines.
Testicular tumours: Removing the testes eliminates the risk of these cancers.
Prostate diseases: Desexing reduces the likelihood of prostate-related health issues.
Perianal adenomas: Male dogs are less likely to develop these growths post-desexing.
Unwanted behaviours: Many undesirable behaviors associated with mating instincts can be minimized.
Urine spraying in cats: Desexing can help eliminate this common territorial behavior.
Ensure the long-term health and well-being of your pets by considering desexing.

We recognise cat grooming to be an essential part of responsible pet ownership.
Cats can develop matted fur that can tug at their skin with every movement, leading to significant discomfort.
Additionally, matting can create hygiene concerns, as feces and urine accumulate in the fur, especially around the tail area.
